Multi-Agency Emergency Management Drill will Address Prom Night Scenario

On Monday, April 9th Eads High School will be the scene of a horrific accident involving teenagers going to Prom.

Mock-Crash-drillRelax readers, THIS IS A DRILL proposed by the Kiowa County Fire Protection Agency in their effort to continue to receive high levels of training and preparedness.  The idea was brought to various emergency management agencies and to Eads High School by A. J. Bolin and Avery Snover who invited the various organizations to the table for a planning session.  What came out of that session will be an event, a drill, involving the Kiowa County Fire Protection Agency, the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Department, the Kiowa County Ambulance Service, Kiowa County Emergency Management, Kiowa County Hospital District, Eads School District, and CareConnectAir, our local air medical helicopter flight for life service.

The Eads High School STAND (Students Taking a New Direction) Club has joined in the emergency management drill providing student actors and an accident scenario on prom night involving teenagers who are distracted drivers because of possible reasons such as texting, drinking, and horseplay.  The accident will involve two cars and up to seven students with one car having two occupants who will act as critical patients, and the other car having an array of severity of injuries.  The location will be at the high school football field parking lot.

As the drill progresses, emergency personnel will arrive and practice procedures in the given scenario.  Fire, police, ambulance, emergency management, and air ambulance will be on scene.
Students, parents, and community members are welcome to observe the drill and will be required to be located on the track infield situated above the parking lot so they are out of the way of the roadway where the emergency equipment will come in.  The drill will begin at 2:00 pm at the parking lot.  Again, citizens are urged to not hamper the flow of the drill and should arrive at the grassy area of the track several minutes prior to the start of the event.  Parking is limited and not available on 9th Street behind the high school.  Seating is not provided so plan accordingly.

For any questions concerning the upcoming emergency management drill please call the Kiowa County Emergency Management offices or the Kiowa County Sheriff’s office.
