Last Saturday, in a wonderful gesture of loving support for good friends and their precious son, Lori Elder and Dawna Weirich organized a fundraising event that was the epitome of warmth, creativity and success.
“Ladies Night Out for a Cause” was held at the (wonderfully decorated) Legion Hall for the purpose of raising funds for the family of Cedric Legg, a four year old little boy who was recently diagnosed with leukemia. And there was an abundance of smiles among the 80 women who attended, no doubt inspired by both the company and the cause.
Lori Elder reflected on the evening in a written statement. “When I heard the unthinkable diagnosis that Cedric had leukemia,” she said, “my heart was overwhelmed with worry for Brittni and Denton and their young family. The strain cancer can take on a family’s financials is jaw dropping and I knew I could host a night for women to come together to support another woman in need.” She went on to add, “Most of us are so incredibly blessed with a clean bill of health for our loved ones as well as ourselves. A night to come together, sip a little sangria and shop for a new outfit, while proceeds go towards a 4-year old boy fighting the devil named cancer was what I pictured 2 months ago and what came to fruition on Saturday night.” She summarized with the following, “The Lord tells us in several passages of the Bible that we are to be stewards and give to those in need. My husband, Kyle, and my amazing mother, Dawna Weirich, were my hands and feet and made this event come together exactly the way I had envisioned it to be. I can’t thank them enough. To all the vendors, donors of silent auction and door prize items and those who donated food, your support didn’t go unnoticed.”
Lori then referenced Acts 20:35 in her comments.
As of April 2nd, the event has raised $3100. Vendors are keeping their websites open until the end of the week for percentages of proceeds going towards the Cedric Legg Medical Fund.
