Kids the Focus for the July 4th Holiday in Eads

The July 4th holiday in Eads will look a lot different than it has in the past few years as some enterprising young parents have gotten together to create a fun morning of activities on Tuesday, July 4th, in order to celebrate our nation’s birth and have a little fun doing it.  This event is being dubbed as the 1st Annual Kids’ Sidewalk Parade.  It came about as local parents were looking for a fun way to celebrate the holiday with their families.

July 4 kid's paradeThe Kids’ Parade is the main event as children from birth to age 12 are encouraged to join in the fun of decorating their wagons, tricycles, bicycles, strollers, and Power Wheels and bring them to the parade. Children ages 0-5 must be accompanied by a parent.  The decorating theme is a salute to our Military and First Responders so bring out the red, white, and blue decorations in honor of America’s birthday.  The organizers are encouraging parents to have some fun with their kids and dress them up, as well.

Registration starts at 9 am in the Eads City Park and the parade will get underway at 10 am sharp.  The parade route will be a rectangle that will start at the park on 14th Street, turning north on Maine Street, then turning east on 12th Street, and then back south on Goff Street, to finally finish back where they started at the City Park.

Rules include no pets, no motor vehicles, and small ATVs may be used for kids ages 10-12 years only.  Parade participants will be divided into 6 groups including Birth to 3 years; 4-6 years; 7-9 years; and 10-12 years.  Power Wheels vehicles will all ride together.

The fun isn’t over once the kids get back around to the City Park as the organizers have ensured that many games and fun will be waiting.  Tristen Sheridan of Busy Beez, LLC will sponsor one of the games.  Praise Community Church will be sponsoring “Raise the Flag” for the kids.  The Kiowa County Economic Development Foundation is helping to provide balloon games and the prizes.  Other games include the “Ping Pong Toss,” “Football Toss,” and “Face Painting” sponsored by Back from the Dead Gadget Repair, LLC.  Finally, the Sheriff’s Department will have their Rock Climbing Wall ready to go.

If you have any questions as to the rules or schedules, or would like to volunteer, please contact organizers Laura Bebee at 719-342-1219 or Jami Lane at 719-688-0353.
