Reese Barnett Wins U.S Kids Golf Spring Tour Championship

Seven-year-old Reese Barnett from Eads has been competing in a number of golf tournaments along the front range as part of the U.S. Kids Golf program.   The Eads Elementary 2nd grader has been golfing in the Denver area Spring Tour that has included tournaments throughout the spring held at courses in Pueblo, Pueblo West, Colorado Springs, and Monument.

Her scores have improved as she gets comfortable with the format of the association tournaments that emphasizes the formal rules of golf and golf etiquette.

On Sunday, Reese won the Spring Tour Championship in her age division at the King’s Deer Golf Club in Monument, Colorado shooting a 38 on the par 36 course.  The 38 was the lowest score on the day in all divisions although her yardage is not as far as for the older players.  For her efforts, she was named the Player of the Year for the Spring Tour and received a trophy and medal for the win.

Reese’s goal for the summer was to qualify for the state’s Priority Status that requires her age division to shoot at least two rounds of 48 or better and earn a significant amount of points.  Points are earned based on placing in each tournament.  Reese has met that goal shooting below the standard in five tournaments over the spring and accumulating 150 points.  Her next goal is to compete in the U.S. Kids Golf Drive, Chip, and Putt competition.
