Team outlook: The Panthers will look to improve on their fifth place finish in the Class 1A District 3 standings from a year ago. Coach Kody Wallace said it was a learning experience for him as well as for his players under his direction last season.
“It was a big learning curve,” said Wallace. “Now, the kids know me a little bit better and I’m really excited for this season.”
Wallace returns a team that will possess some size as well as some shooters. One area Wallace said his team needs to improve on is to handle pressure defense. On offensive, Wallace explained that they depended a lot on outside shooting but looks to have a strong inside game this season.
Wiley will tip off the season with a road game at Flagler/Hi-Plains on Thursday, Nov. 29 and will host Cheyenne Wells on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
The Panthers then entertain No. 2 state-ranked Kit Carson on Friday, Dec. 7.
