Kit Carson Lady Wildcats Bring Home the Gold

Well Wildcat Fans…it has been an amazing ride.  The 2016-2017 team started this journey out 12 weeks ago and saw it all the way through!  What a weekend…let’s reminisce about all the things that happened.

Isenbart grabbed 7 more.  True to form, assists were a uniqueness to this team, with each team member wanting their cohorts to succeed.  M. Isenbart dished 8 to her team, while T. Hornung (5 assists) and
Smith (4 assists) found others to add to the success of the night.  The first round of the trip would end with a score of 51-31 and the Cats would head to their second leg of their adventure.

Friday night semi-finals was a magical atmosphere.  Emotions and stakes were high, and there was basketball fever in the air that only post season basketball action can bring.  On this night, the Cats would be faced with a rival battle against South Baca.  Last season would add fuel to their determination, as the Wildcats still had a bitter taste in their mouths.  Relentless fortitude once again ensued, and Kit Carson came out blazing, putting 10 points on the board in a flash.  With a strong first half, Kit Carson held the lead the entire game, chipping away quarter after quarter to add separation from a salty South Baca team.  Yet again, T. Hornung would put up a double double with an incredible 25 points and 11 rebounds.  Bogenhagen would shoot 3 for 3 from the free throw line and contribute 8 points to the team goal, while M. Isenbart and O. Isenbart would each have 5 points and Smith would provide 4 more to gain the victory.  Assists made this such a special night as every Cat member was looking for her team:  M. Isenbart would dish 5, R. Isenbart would pass in 3 more, T. Hornung, Bogenhagen, and O. Isenbart found 2 open people, and Smith and H. Johnson would each find another teammate—impressive team play by the Wildcats!

This semi-final game found the Kit Carson Wildcats victorious with a score of 59-37.  With this big win, the Wildcats found themselves in a unique situation—making a dream come true!MiCayla Isenbart and the Kit Carson Wildcats versus Fleming at the State Championship Game - Photo Credit Bob Schecter

The final stage, the end of the perfect season, the big dance, is exactly where Coach Crawford saw her team at the beginning!  What a night.  Still undefeated, Kit Carson would be hitting the hardwood with the Fleming Wildcats, a team that has been a nemesis for some time.  On this championship night, the scoring, again, was a collective effort.  The inside game was going to be key for Kit Carson to pull ahead of this aggressive, fast, perimeter team.  T. Hornung had 15 points, and O. Isenbart had 14 points, both battling hard inside to make that game plan happen.  Team leaders M. Isenbart (9 points) and Bogenhagen (7 points) kept Fleming guessing as they controlled the perimeter game, putting up 9 points from the big line.  Fleming didn’t know what to guard, who to guard, or where to turn as they found themselves confronted with determined, spirited, and powerful purple and gold Wildcats!  With that same story continuing, the paint was not a place you wanted to be if you were a green and black Wildcat from the north.  Kit Carson dominated the boards, out rebounding Fleming 35-27.   The Lady Wildcats, led by senior Shayla Bogenhagen, would dance the dance with grace and style, defeating the Fleming Wildcats 55-35 and ending their season with a perfect record.  What a ride…what a dance.

Kit Carson would like to thank all their fans for joining them on this journey.  It is always more special when you share an adventure like this with the people that have helped mold and shape you, and that is this incredible community.  It is only as special as the people you are with, and the team had the greatest support a student/athlete could ask for!  They are raising this trophy as a collective team, comprised of well over 300 team members, everyone who is a part of Wildcat Nation!
