Kit Carson Lady Wildcats Stay Alive Another Week

The District 2 Tournament this past week was the next step for the Kit Carson Wildcats to accomplish on their quest for the coveted gold ball.

District championship play was another rival for Kit Carson, as they faced their neighbors to the south, the Eads Eagles.  Eads succeeded in their plan to slow the game down the first half, only allowing Kit Carson to score 25 points.  Showing patience controlling the possessions of the ball, Eads took Carson out of their rhythm in the beginning, making it hard for the Cats to get into their groove.  Half time was a nice reprieve for Kit Carson, a time when they could regroup and focus on what type of game they like to play.  With every chance they were given, Carson pushed the ball up the court, forcing Eads to speed up their play.  Tess Hornung came out with a vengeance and scored 15 of her total 18 points in the second half.  M. Isenbart scored 13 points on the night, while the other double figure scorer was Reyna Isenbart putting 10 points on the board.    Kit Carson was crowned District 2 Champions at the end of the night with a final score of 54-19.

Head Coach Sara Crawford is excited to move on to Regionals next week, “It has been such a fun, memorable season!  From day one the girls have been dialed in.  We haven’t done a whole lot of talking about the future.  Mostly, we’ve been able to just focus on what up next on the schedule; and now that’s the Regional tournament.  It’s always exciting when we know we’ll be facing competitive teams because the girls usually rise to the challenge.  We will spend the week trying to tweak any issues from last weekend and progress so we’re ready for our opponents.  It’s an exciting time of year!”

The Kit Carson Lady Wildcats will take their undefeated status and enter the Region 3 Tournament at the La Junta High School gymnasium as the #1 seed.  They will receive a bye on Friday and will play the winner of the McClave (#6) vs South Baca (#7) match up.  Please join the festivities as the Lady Cats battle for their next step towards the gold ball—the energy is infectious, and the spirit is contagious, so join in on the action.
