     As the new basketball season approached, the Kit Carson Lady Wildcats set goals for their team to guide them on their new endeavor.  They wrote their list and checked it twice as they set forth into the 53rd Annual Lamar Holiday Tournament.

Wildcats Take 2nd Place in Lamar Holiday Tournament

            The Kit Carson Wildcats came into the Lamar Chamber of Commerce Holiday Tournament seeded 3rd. They battled all the way to the championship game on Saturday Night, losing to a quick, athletic Holly Wildcat team. The Wildcats began the tournament strong on Thursday night taking a decisive win over the Walsh Eagles, 55-28. In the semi-final game on Friday night they garnered a solid win over the McClave Cardinals, 51-31. In a repeat of last years final in the Holiday Tournament the KC Wildcats again faced the Holly Wildcats in the championship game. Kit Carson couldn’t find their scoring rhythm until late in the game and they lost, 47-39.

Lamar Holiday Basketball A Tough One For Eads Girls

      The Eads girls’ basketball team entered the annual Lamar Holiday Basketball Tournament seeded #6 and slated to take on #3 McClave.  Eads was 2-1 going in as they had lost to a fast and athletic Springfield team the week before.  Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, they were without the services of point guard and defensive scrapper Miranda Mitchek who had suffered a sprang to her ankle earlier that week in practice.

Former Eads Eagle Garrett Smith Named Colorado 6-Man Coach of the Year

      The Indy recently got a chance to talk with former Eads Eagle Garrett Smith about being named Colorado 6-Man Coach of the Year. Smith graduated in 2010 and is now a science teacher and football coach at Cheyenne Wells High School.  Smith was hired in the summer to be the Tigers’ Head Football Coach even though he had never coached at the varsity level.  He believes his knowledge and experience of the game of 6-Man Football helped him get the job.
