Eads Golf Tournament Comes Down to 18th Hole

The Eads Golf Course sponsored their Two-Day-Two-Man Scramble Tournament over the weekend with 36 golfers competing in the high temperatures.  The course played well as the course crew and volunteers have worked many hours grooming the fairways and greens to perfection.  The tournament featured 36 excellent golfers from around the area and as far away as Denver and the Fort Collins area.

Crow Wins First Round in Bronc-Riding Competition

Kyle Crow, of Eads, surprised everyone at the Kiowa County Fair last year when he accepted a challenge to ride a wild horse in the Bronc-Riding competition.  He managed to stay on for the required 8 seconds!  This year, Crow has started out riding the broncs again, as he won the first round on Friday night in Las Animas.  Crow says he’s going to compete in other local rodeos through the rest of this summer season. 

90 Golfers Compete in Two-Man-One-Woman Scramble in Eads

The Eads Golf Course was a busy place on Saturday as the club hosted their annual Two-Man-One-Woman Scramble Tournament.  This year, 30 teams from Eads, Lamar, Flagler, Hugo, Limon, Kit Carson, and Cheyenne Wells competed against each other for money prizes in the three-flight tournament.  It was an interesting and diverse group of golfers from novice to near-professional level of ability including the youngest golfer to ever play in this tournament, six-year-old Reese Barnett who played with her father, Kyle Barnett, and grandfather, Randy Holmen.

Lenox wins Hamilton County Demo Derby

Justin Lenox of Eads, Colorado ventured over to Syracuse, Kansas to compete in front of a packed arena in the Hamilton County Demolition Derby on July 23, 2016. Lenox has spent the past year building his car to get it competition-ready, and all that work became worth it on this night. Lenox's car was a 1977 Lincoln Continental. He was drawn into heat one along with six other competitors and had good luck driving well to qualify for the full size car feature directly out of the heat, instead of having to go through a consolation heat.

Southern Plains 10U Baseball goes 1-2 at State Tournament

It’s been a few weeks since area baseball all-stars ended.  The Southern Plains 10U team was the last man standing in this area as they traveled to play in their state tournament in Yuma, Colorado on July 7-10.  Baseball is not like the softball tournaments where pool play is the first order of business and teams can end up playing 4-8 games during a tournament.  The baseball tournaments are structured in a true double-elimination tournament from the very start.  The 10U group, coached by Sean Lening (Eads) and Lonnie Spady (Eads) went 1-2 in the state tournament.
