The Wishing Windmill originally opened for business in April of 2022 as an online boutique. The owner, Breanna Echols who our readers may recognize as one of Kiowa County Independent’s outstanding lifestyles authors, has recently made a leap of faith and ventured from a webspace to a physical space located at the Wildcat Corner 120 US Highway 40 Kit Carson, Colorado.
“Having the store inside the Wildcat Corner is a huge benefit for me, because it’s given me a place to have my inventory set up for the locals to have a more hands-on experience with my boutique. It benefits the Wildcat Corner because with having set hours Monday through Thursday, I sell the snacks, coffee, and ice cream while the students, who would normally be running the store, are in school. It is a win-win for everyone, both locals and travelers don’t have a place to stop in Kit Carson for snacks, or even to use the restroom, and now with a store front open through the weekdays they do.”
Breanna and her husband of nearly 14-years, James, have 3 children, Bailey (age 10), Emily (age 7), and Dillan (age 5) who all attend the Kit Carson school.
James and Breanna are part owners with James’ two brothers, Daniel Echols, and Kenneth Echols, of a first-generation family farm. Triple E Farms was started back in 2018 and has rapidly grown according to Echols.
“The girls really love helping me with the boutique, and I look forward to hopefully having a place for them to work over the summers when they are a little older. But for now, this gives me something to do while they are in school, and still allows me to be there for them whenever they need me.”
“My husband really loves that I have the boutique, it brings me a whole lot of joy, and he’s always been supportive of everything I do. He is very happy to have some extra space in our house, now that I have a place to store my inventory.”
Inside the boutique customers will find a mix of casual, western, and boho clothing items. The sizes cover most body types, some items ranging from size S-2XL. There is also western jewelry, a few fragrances, bags, and hopefully soon shoes will be thrown in the mix.
The Wishing Windmill hours of operation for the storefront are Monday–Thursday 8:30am–3:00pm, Online Shopping is available 24/7 from the website https://www.thewishingwindmill.com, and the Wildcat Corner is open during those times along with their own hours, which vary, and are listed on their Facebook page.
Echols states that while she is beyond happy and feels blessed to have this new brick and mortar opportunity, she does not intend to stop praying for a path to something bigger. “My future plans for the boutique are to eventually move into the new workspace built by KCRD, and I’d like to include a full-service coffee shop, and maybe some grab-and-go food options.”
With new housing options soon to be available in Kit Carson, a large new school, and now expanded access to convenient accommodations, stylish clothing and accessories the approach to a prosperous future in Kit Carson is on the horizon.
