Behind the Grindstone: The Thief

It’s the Easter season again. It and spring seem to go hand in hand. It’s one of my favorite seasons. As the frost of fall brought the death of winter we now look forward to the new life of spring. We watch as the prairie slowly starts showing the signs of life. You can smell spring on the early morning air, see it in the robins in the orchard, and hear it in the warble of the meadowlark. After a long cold winter spring offers us new life, lifting our spirits and giving us hope.

This too is what Easter is about, new life. Although it was the frost of the fall of mankind that brought the death of winter to the cross, it’s the spring of the resurrection that offers us new life, lifting our spirits and giving us hope. Ol’ Cheryl and I hope you all have a blessed Easter.

Lord, I’m just a thief
Hangin’ here by your side
They hung you between two of us
We’re bein’ crucified

And Lord I deserve this punishment
The type of life I’ve led
The gold and silver I have stole
Others blood that I have shed

Lord won’t you take me with you
When this day on earth is through
Hangin’ here on this ole’ cross
I put my trust in you

Lord, I’m just a cowboy
Here on this earth I ride
And Lord I’ve tried the other way
Will you ride now by my side

And Lord I don’t deserve these things
The type of life I’ve led
But when you died upon the cross
For me your blood was shed

Lord won’t you take me with you
When my ride on earth is through
Head bowed here on this ole’ horse
I put my trust in you

At least, that’s the view here from behind the grindstone.
