He’s just an old cowboy
Settin’ on his porch
He’s lost some of his fire
But he hasn’t dropped his torch
Although he’s sold his last horse
He’s hung onto his saddle
And he’s now leased out his graze
Runnin’ another man’s cattle
The lifestyle he’s livin’
Seems to be locked into the past
Cause the world he’s now livin’ in
Is spinnin’ much too fast
Where knowledge is abounding
And wisdom is hard to find
Cause knowledge without wisdom
Is sure to blind your mind
He’s told that technology
Was created for the good
But he doesn’t understand it
Or even know why he should
He’s drivin’ a thirty year old pickup
As solid as a rock
Before they made them outa plastic
And taught them how to talk
And he still uses a map
To guide him on his way
He trusts it more than gps
No matter what they say
Some folks make comments
And seem to be impressed
At his “cowboy clothes”
And the way that he’s dressed
Like he’s a relic from the old days
And he stepped outa the past
And they’re lookin’ at history
Thinkin’ he must be the last
And they admire his lifestyle
The way that he is living
The peace that surrounds him
And the freedom it is giving
And it seems they have found
Something they hadn’t sought
But they’re not willing to give up
To get what he’s got
So he’s liviin’ a simple life
Without the bells and whistles
At peace amongst the sagebrush
The cactus and the thistles.
At least, that’s the view here from behind the grindstone.
