He had taught him Americans history
Down throughout the years
And it had done them both well
Or so it now appears
As they stand before the pole
Where Old Glory will soon wave
Over the land of the free
And the home of the brave
Just a boy pushin’ six
Rememberin’ what he’d been taught
Freedom ain’t free
It has to be bought
With patriotism, strength and courage
And the fortitude to stand
With a love for God
And a love for the land
And a love for true freedom
For which many fought and died
As he holds the folded flag
Standin’ by his fathers side
The boy can’t wait to see
It waving in the air
As his father takes the folded flag
And offers up a prayer
God, for two hundred and fifty years
You’ve helped our nation stand
God, now we come before you
Would you continue to bless our land
So they raised the flag together
The rope in both their hands
As he talked about it’s history
Battles fought in foreign lands
And those who fought for freedom
And answered our nation’s call
Not always understanding
Yet they fought and gave their all
Son don’t ever take it lightly
The sacrifice they made
So we have the freedom to raise Old Glory
And the price that they paid
Just a boy pushin’ six
Watchin’ her as she flies
With the back of his hand
He wipes the tears from his eyes.
