People were wondering: “Will we even be able of have the much-anticipated Weisbrod Thanksgiving dinner with our families? Will they get all this snow and ice removed? Will our family members be snowed in? Well, when last Sunday dawned it was a sunny fall day and warm enough that the snow was removed enough for residents to get to maneuver in their wheelchairs. Jaton Wallace and Linda Hopkins of the Weisbrod Nursing Home Activity Department, and possibly others, had decorated the tables in fall colors and placed families in groups.

The Kiowa County Fair Grounds continues to be a place of various activities for the enjoyment of people. Last weekend was the annual Mike Johnson Memorial Team Sorting Event.

Last Tuesday started off with a bang in Eads Eagle country when our Volleyball Team went to play Hugo. On the night before the girls who also play on the Softball team played in Guymon, Oklahoma.

The highlight for many people last week was attending Mary Marble’s 100th birthday Party! And it was BIG! Last year she told me, “I don’t need a party for my 100th Birthday.” I told Mary, “It would be good to let others celebrate you.” Oh, the large dining room at the Prairie Pines Assisted Living Center was packed with friends and relatives even an hour before party time. I heard the Director Tristen Sheridan and her employees were so busy serving guests that they were tired at the end.

Even though it was cold and snowy out on Christmas Eve, the Eads and Haswell Community Churches had their traditional Christmas Eve services with the lighting of the candles on the Advent Wreath and singing of carols and scripture shared. Lay Leader Pam Lessenden at Haswell posted a photo of 19 of the happy children after the service.

Saturday morning I was happy to see that it was warmer and the streets looked melted so I rolled to town and learned that I could roll on snow too. I was delighted to see local artist Shelly Meyers had painted wonderful Christmas designs on many store front windows.

The weather in Eads America for Sunday’s Merry on Maine street festival was sunnier and warmer than expected. It was such a lovely event for those who attended.
