Two schools just over 20 miles apart along Highway 40—in two separate states—both became their respective state’s 6-Man State Champions in football over the Thanksgiving break. In Colorado, the small town of Cheyenne Wells located on Highway 40 in extreme eastern Colorado won an exciting 6-Man Colorado Football Championship on Friday, November 29th. One day later—their neighbors located just 22 miles down the road towards the east—the Weskan Coyotes, the small town located on Highway 40 in extreme western Kansas won an exciting 6-Man Kansas Football Championship. The communities know each other well and the students have grown up with each other despite attending different schools. In the summers they play ball together, participate in 4-H activities together, and attend the same churches. What a unique outcome to have two schools, in two states, win state championships at the same time. Whether it’s divine intervention or just the fact that they raise ‘em right over there—that was some kind of a weekend to be thankful for. Congratulations to the Cheyenne Wells Tigers and their neighbors and friends the Weskan Coyotes on their respective gold balls. That’s one for the record books.
