MELISSA BOHL is the owner of Thoughts in Bloom flower shop in Lamar. Nearly every January Bohl leaves her very successful business in southeastern Colorado for a few days and heads to Pasadena, CA in order to help put together some of the most beautiful floats in the world. Bohl utilizes her extensive creativity and expertise in all things flowers and plants at the annual Tournament of Roses New Year’s Parade where she has volunteered for an impressive collection of float sponsors. This year the float she worked on entitled “Welcome Home” co-sponsored by the Pasadena Humane Society and Hills Nutrition won the 2025 Theme Award for the most outstanding presentation of the Rose Parade theme—“Best Day Ever.” The float consisted of animated cats and dogs—made from flowers—that had been adopted over the past year. It also featured 3 live dogs riding the float who were up for adoption and needing forever homes. The Independent salutes Melissa Bohl for her continuing investment in this prestigious opportunity. Happy New Year!
