January 15 Last Day to Purchase Legacy Bricks at Plains Theater in Eads

For the past three months the Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center has been selling Legacy bricks that will be used to replace the old sidewalk in front of the current Plains Theater and Maine Scoop Ice Cream Shoppe. The brick sales are now coming to an end and will close on January 15. All orders must be made by the end of that day.

According to officials at CLCEC the project has gone well, and they have received many orders from people who are taking the opportunity to ensure their families, businesses, organizations or histories are captured in brick and displayed along a walkway of community history.

Officials invite anyone who has ever attended movies at the theater or who has a link of any kind to the community to memorialize it on these bricks.

The bricks will be ordered after the deadline and should be ready to be installed sometime in March. At that time the old cement will be broken out in front of the theater and a brand new walkway of legacy bricks with everyone’s names, brands, interests, achievements, etc. will be forever shared in downtown Eads. It will be a walkway that will attract attention for many years, decades and generations to come.

There are three sizes of bricks to choose from depending on how much information you want on your brick. The 4”x 8” brick is $100 and gives you 3-4 lines of text. The 8” x 8” brick costs $225 and allows for 7-8 lines of text. Finally, the largest brick at 12” x 12” is $350 and allows for up to 12 lines of text. Each brick can also have clip art or brand art at no additional cost.

All proceeds from the sell of the bricks will go directly toward paying for the upcoming renovations that will finalize the more than decade-long project at the center.

If you have not made your order yet--- you still have time. There are a number of ways to make the order. You can cut out the order form provided in the current edition of the Independent, fill it out, and bring it into the Kiowa County Independent offices along with your check. You can email Betsy Barnett at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or call at 719-940-0799 and tell her you want to make an order, at which point she will contact you. Finally, you can make the online order yourself with a credit or debit card by going to http://polarengraving.com/crowluther.

Springtime will be a very exciting season at the Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center in Eads as they begin the construction work in the old pool hall and Bentley Buildings. And, it will also be the time that a new walkway, filled with the legacy of the theater and the community, will be laid ready to tell our stories and histories for upcoming generations.
