2nd Annual Merry on Maine Schedule Announced

The community holiday celebration known as Merry on Maine began last year by a group of people who wanted to do something at Christmas time to boost the spirits of the community who had seen their share of heartache and sadness due to the nearly year-long Covid-19 pandemic lockdowns and closures. Although it looked like it would not happen on the scheduled date a year ago, miraculously Santa showed up and saved the day. Further, it established what will now become a new holiday tradition in Eads.

Organizers of the event have been meeting and have brought together the many groups of people in our community to contribute their talents and manpower in order to make the event a true community driven event.

Merry on Maine 2021 will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021 starting at noon and run through the afternoon culminating with the lighting of the community Christmas tree and Parade of Lights.

In association with the Merry on Maine celebration the Eads Chamber of Commerce is again sponsoring the Christmas House Lighting contest. Last year there were some spectacular entries and this year the Chamber is making plans to make the contest bigger than ever. More information on entering the house decorating contest will be available in the next few days.

The event will culminate with the Parade of Lights led by Karl Eikenberg who single-handedly last year made the parade a reality. More information on the Parade of Lights will come this week. However, rest assured it is time to plan to be a part of the parade by coming up with creative and fun ideas. Those may include decorating a golf cart, tractor, pickup, scooter, or a horse-pulled wagon. Find anything that moves and slap a bunch of lights on it in order to join the fun.

Any proceeds from the Merry on Maine event will go to the Kiowa County Public Library and the Little Leaders Childcare Center in even parts. Donations to these organizations can be made at the event or by contacting the Kiowa County Economic Development Foundation director Cindy McLoud at (719) 438-2200.
