A new insurance company has moved in on Maine Street in Eads and is sharing office space at 1316 Maine Street in the Kiowa County Independent newspaper building. The space is currently the satellite office for Buck Law, LLC who comes to Eads on the first Thursday and Friday of the month. First Insurance Services, Inc. will be in the space the rest of the month.

Insurance has been one of those services that Eads has had little experience with. First Insurance Services is 100% owned and operated locally and has offices in Las Animas, Lamar, Alamosa, La Junta and now Eads.

First Insurance Services, Inc. is the umbrella over First Crop Insurance and High Plains Insurance companies. All three insurance companies have a strong focus on agriculture and their move to Eads is part of that strategy.

Majority owner Adam Nevland indicated in an interview, “First Insurance Services, Inc. is excited to expand into Eads and to a new market that has had little insurance assistance in the past. Our strength lies in the flexibility we’ve developed in 10 states where we can access other layers of insurance products in the market. Because of that we should be able to get our new Eads friends a comparable or even better deal on their insurance needs.”

Weston Meardon was hired as an insurance agent by First Insurance Services, Inc. in 2020 and has been traveling the 50 miles, one way, to Las Animas to work in the offices there for the past two years. Now that the company has moved to Eads, Meardon is thrilled to be the agent named to the Eads office and is excited to begin working with area citizens with their insurance needs.

Meardon is married to Kailey (Lane) and they have two young children. He also volunteers as a firefighter at the Kiowa County Fire Protection District and coaches high school basketball at Eads. Meardon grew up in the area and attended Walsh High School where he and his twin brother Jaxon were standout athletes. He earned a Bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Psychology.

Meardon says, “I’m thrilled not to have to drive back and forth to Las Animas and already being in the Eads office has allowed me to be so much more productive. I’m looking forward to bringing what I learned from some really amazing mentor agents in Las Animas to the Eads office.”

First Insurance Services, Inc. offers an array of strong insurance products including Farm & Ranch Insurance, Crop Insurance and Home, Auto and Business policies as well. Meardon is able to help local businesses with solid products in Workman’ Compensation Insurance as well as Professional Liability policies of all kinds.

The company also sells Health Insurance, including Medicare supplements, and Life insurance policies and has a number of quality products that Meardon is excited to share with new customers. Meardon says, “We want to take care of our clients and will do the best we can to help them be successful in meeting their insurance needs.”

The Eads office hours are pretty solid from Monday-Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Currently, until the Eads basketball season is over, Meardon’s schedule is a little more erratic later in the day.

But Weston invites anyone who would like to learn more or who has insurance needs to just walk in the front door. “My office is to the left and the door is always open.” You can also call Meardon at 719-529-2016 or contact him through email at This email address is being protected from spambots. The Independent is excited to be sharing space with First Insurance Services, Inc. They are already good neighbors and will do a terrific job providing protection for our community’s families, ag workers and businesses.
