It’s been a long time in the making, but the Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center in Eads is proud to announce they are sponsoring a Children’s Theater event for any interested child grades K-12 in the area.

CLCEC Chairman Betsy Barnett stated, “As opportunities for our children in the arts continue to dwindle, we have been talking for the past four years about booking the well-known and highly successful Missoula Children’s Theatre group to bring an actual musical production to the stage at the Plains Theater. The pandemic put the stops to the plan, but finally, this summer we are ready to go. We hope all children will want to get involved in learning how the various elements of stage production works from auditioning and rehearsals, to sets, lighting and stage management. This event meets our overall mission to bring the arts to Eads and southeastern Colorado.”

The open audition for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of “The Jungle Book” will be Monday, June 6 from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at the historic Plains Theater in downtown Eads.

There are roles for students from grades K-12. Approximately 50 to 60 local students will be cast to appear in the show with the MCT Tour Actor/Director and up to four students to be Assistant Directors.

Barnett indicated, “This is a group audition–no advance preparation is necessary, but a smile never hurts. Students should just be ready to come and have a good time.”

There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play. Students wishing to audition must arrive by the scheduled starting time and stay for the entire two-hour session.

The first rehearsal for the more complicated roles will begin approximately 15 to 30 minutes after the Monday, June 6 audition.

Rehearsals will be conducted every day from 10 a.m. to noon and 12:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. at the Plains Theater and the Eads Senior Citizens facility located directly across the street from the Plains Theater.

Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals required for their role and one community performance on Friday, June 10 and another on Saturday, June 11. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the audition.

Cast members scheduled for the full 4½ hours of rehearsal during the week will be asked to bring a sack lunch, dinner or snack, but CLCEC is hoping to also help out by providing daily snacks at the rehearsals.

The fruits of their labor will be enjoyed when they perform the play/musical “The Jungle Book” on Friday, June 10 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, June 11 at 1:00 p.m. at the Plains Theater in Eads. Tickets will go on sale for the two performances later this spring and more information will be coming.
