2nd Annual Ag Appreciation Day to Be Held April 10 at Fairgrounds in Eads

The second annual community celebration known as Ag Appreciation Day will be held at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds in Eads on Sunday, April 10 beginning at noon. The celebration is headed up by a group of Kiowa County Ag Supporters who has planned for a free barbeque of hot dogs and hamburgers, live music, a cornhole tournament and a KidZone designed to keep people of all ages engaged.

New to the celebration this year is a Barbeque Cook-Off Contest with taste-testing and voting beginning at 6:00 pm. The winners will be announced at 7:00 pm. The prizes for this first annual competition are impressive. First place wins $250; Second place wins $100; and Third place wins $50.

In addition, Cody and Robin Fox will be hosting a Play Day for the Kiowa County Riding Club. It begins at 10:00 am at the Fairgrounds Arena. There are 5 age groups and at least four events to compete in. For more information on this part of the day please contact either Cody or Robin.

The event is free to the public and brought to the community in order to recognize and celebrate those in our community involved in agriculture. Any donations made to the event will benefit the Eads FFA and Kiowa County 4H Clubs.

The original Ag Appreciation Day was created a year ago in protest to Governor Polis’ proclamation, “March 20th as Meat-Out Day.” That proclamation enraged the state’s agricultural producers and communities. In response ‘Meat-In Days’ were celebrated across the state in many agricultural communities, including one held on March 20 in order to honor our agricultural producers and industries.

According to a statement given after last year’s event, “In one of the least populated counties in the state of Colorado, Kiowa County’s event attracted hundreds of people for the free food, serving up hamburgers and hot dogs, numerous kids’ games, live music and good ‘ole all-American team roping.”

This year’s organizers want to continue to celebrate agriculture in the county and across the state. Thankfully, there is no “Meat-Out” proclamation from the Governor this year, so this 2nd annual event is solely designed to celebrate our agricultural community.
