Summer Reading Program 2022 Kiowa County Public Library District

August 17, 2022

We dove into “Oceans of Possibilities” at the library’s Summer Reading Program (SRP) with 90 registered participants; which was the highest number of participants for many years! We offered one session per week for four weeks of learning, creativity, and fun with a grand total of 236 attendees! We explored the ocean theme as the children learned about sea creatures, lighthouses, beaches, and much more!

For the last day of SRP, we headed over to the Plains Theater to enjoy some popcorn as we all watched “Finding Nemo” on the big screen. After the movie, we had grand prize drawings in each of the three age groups for perfect attendance and reading logs. Our perfect attendance winners were Olivia Fry, Cree Cordova, and Wyatt Van Campen! Our reading log winners were Jude Deines, Taylor Uhland, and Hadlee Dunlap! We also included a prize for the most books read during SRP which was a tie between siblings Breckyn and Brilon Meardon; each of them logged 51 books! One thing is for sure, none of the children left empty handed as every participant received a goodie bag full of treats and three coupons: Icee at Crow’s Stop & Shop, movie ticket to Plains Theater, and ice cream at Maine Scoop!

We had an amazing time at Summer Reading, but we can’t let it go without saying that none of it would have been possible without the donations and support of so many people in our community…

Monetary Donors

Matt & Claire Prince; Linda & Bill Trosper; Bake Sale Girls (Miranda Kepler, Gracie Lynch, Azi Lucero, Ellie Rigsby, and Prestyn Kepler); and other anonymous donors. – Without your donations we literally would not be able to have SRP at all. Thank you for ensuring that we can continue to offer this important program to the children of Kiowa County!

Sponsors

Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center, Crow’s Stop & Shop, and the Maine Scoop (Mary Vasquez & Linda Trosper)–Thank you for everything you each provide every year to make SRP extra special for the children!

Group Leaders

Audrey Johnson, Krystal Eikenberg, Claire Prince, and Deborah Gooden – A huge THANK YOU for all the time and dedication you each put into making SRP a success that’s full of learning and fun. We truly wouldn’t be able to do it without you rockstars!

Assistants & Helpers

Brenda Stoker, Merena Lowe, Katie Johnson, Tearle Lessenden, Samantha Courkamp, Breanna Wilson, Rhealie Rittgers, Colin Nelson, Landon Zimmerman – Thank you for dedicating your time to help the leaders however they needed; helping us set-up/clean-up; and helping ensure the children were safe and always got the help they needed.

Library Helpers

Julie Zimmerman, Kelly Courkamp, and Pat Roper – Thank you for helping get books into the hands of the SRP participants.

Photographer

Cassie Frey – Thank you for joining us every week to take pictures of all the fun and for always being willing to jump in and lend a hand however/wherever needed!

Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center

Thank you for letting us enjoy “Finding Nemo’’ on the big screen! Thank you, CLCEC board members, Marty Miller for showing the videos and movie; Betsy Barnett & Alicia James for popping and bagging popcorn; and to everyone that helped clean-up!

Tami Crockett

Thank you for donating your time and talent to paint the fun and beautiful ocean animals on the library windows and glass partitions and for making us the foam coral reef. It added such a special touch and splash of color to the program!

LaDawne Britten

Thank you for donating your time and equipment to cut out all those fishes that would have taken us hours to do by hand!

Kiowa County Commissioners & Kiowa County Extension Office

Thank you for letting us use/invade the meeting room and office space to hold the program. We certainly can’t fit everyone into the library so we greatly appreciate the use of your space!

And most importantly, THANK YOU to the children that participated and to the parents that continue to bring them to the program each year! We sure do enjoy having them and we hope that SRP helps the children develop a love for reading and makes them want to continue visiting the library throughout the year. We want them to always feel welcome here and continue to grow their knowledge and imagination, so we hope to see them back soon. Thank you for another great summer!
