Update on Fatal Accident on Highway 287 Thursday Night

FROM THE COLORADO STATE PATROL:
A three-vehicle crash along Colorado Highway 287 took a life on Friday, April 14, 2017 at approximately 12:38 a.m. Near milepost 122 at around 11:42 p.m., a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup driving southbound was passing a 2005 Peterbilt, which was pulling a 2014 Merritt trailer, when it collided with a 2007 Freightliner traveling northbound pulling a 2007 Wanco box trailer. The collision caused the Freightliner to catch on fire and onto the east shoulder.
The Perterbilt then collided with the Dodge, forcing the Dodge to roll and travel across the northbound lanes and onto the east shoulder.
The driver of the Dodge, Christopher W. Northcutt of Amarillo, TX was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Freightliner was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The passenger was also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the Peterbilt was uninjured in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.

UUPDATE BY KIOWA COUNTY CORONER JIMMY BROWN:
On Friday, April 14, 2017 at approximately 12:38 a.m. the Kiowa County Coroner’s office was dispatched to a multi-vehicle motor vehicle accident involving two (2) Semi tractor-trailers and one (1) Dodge full sized pickup.  It was determined that there was one fatality that resulted from this accident.  
Christopher W. Northcutt of Amarillo, TX has been positively identified as the restrained driver of a 2015 Dodge Ram Full Sized Pickup.  Mr. Northcutt was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:35 a.m. by Kiowa County Coroner Jimmy R. Brown.  An official cause and manner of Mr. Northcutt’s death has not yet been determined.
