May 10, 2024

The emergency medical consortium known as Plains to Peaks with members in Cheyenne County, Kit Carson County, and Lincoln County, among others along the front range, held its annual conference in Limon from April 27-28, 2024. The conference was a joint venture of the Plains to Peaks RETAC, UCHealth Memorial Hospital, Children’s Hospital Colorado, and Penrose-St. Francis Health Services.

At the conference a great number of workshops and continuing education offerings were available for attendees. Then during the awards banquet some local professionals were recognized.

Laine Mitchek, a dedicated local EMT, and Margaret (Maggie) Oswald, RN, were honored with prestigious awards. Laine snagged the Plains to Peaks EMT of the Year Award, while Maggie was named the Plains to Peaks ER Nurse of the Year.

Maggie Oswald is presented the Plains to Peaks ER Nurse of the Year Award by Keefe DON Briana Kent.

Dr. Brian Miles, medical doctor at Keefe Memorial Health Services also won the Plains to Peaks ER Physician of the Year, though he was unable to make it to the ceremony.

Keefe Memorial Health Service’s Director of Nurses, Briana Kent, had the privilege of presenting these well-deserved accolades at the Plains to Peaks annual conference in Limon last Saturday.

Congratulations to these dedicated emergency care givers in Cheyenne County.
