Voices of the Passed

By Linda Bourne

The cemetery tours began in 2016 by Larry Bourne, Boggsville Site Manager and Linda Bourne his sidekick. It began because of the Annual All Class Reunion of the Las Animas graduates that has been going on for many, many years. There was never anything for entertainment for the alumni that came back home. We decided to try the cemetery tour. We brought it up to our other members of Boggsville and the John W. Rawlings Heritage Center and Museum. We first came up with a number we thought would work for the hours we had. Then we spread the word of what we would like to do and researched who was of interest in the cemetery. We had volunteers step up to fill a role or that wanted to tell their family story.

This is a little of a fundraiser for Boggsville Historic site along with just including the community and past natives of the community and teaching them the history. They look forward to it every year and can’t wait to see who is the next story about.

It grew each year that we did it. We also had the support of 3-4 families that have wagons and teams. They help us out every year and have a blast. This year we have so far 5 story tellers. They have some very interesting stories to tell this year. Who knew that we had so much history and awesome people here. Each of our story tellers will be dressed in costume to match their story. All this while you ride in a horse drawn wagon and enjoy the outside air.

We will begin at 1:pm and wagons will load every 30 minutes. It usually takes about 30-45 minutes from start to finish. (I believe) If you have more than 4 please call for a reservation: Barb (303) 427-2317.

Adults: $10 Youth under 16 $5 Children under 6 free.

P.S.: Watch the weather and dress or prepare accordingly.

If you need anything else please let me know. Thank you.
