Letter to the Editor: Jeff Campbell

Back in the day, as we ran investigations, especially “high profile” cases, our agency Public Information Officer [P.I.O.] would release regular updates to let the public know we were still on it, although new details were often withheld to protect the evolving case. We called it “full disclosure,” now it’s “being transparent.”

28 Days.

In four weeks since mid-afternoon April 9, 2020, when Zach Gifford was shot and killed in Brandon I don’t recall any press briefings from Kiowa or Prowers County. What’s happening? The longer we wait, the more questions and doubts arise. The longer we wait, the fouler the smell.

The weeks haven’t passed without talking to other people who knew Zach and they’re all alike. He was quiet, lived an austere life and wasn’t a party looking for a place to happen. He was a man well-met and well-liked.

Blessings to the memory of Zach, his family and all who knew him. We won’t forget.

Vayan con Dios, Jeff C. Campbell
