Blake Robertson, the owner of Blake Robertson’s Handyman Service LLC, is a testament to resilience, skill, and the power of pursuing a passion. A native of Eads, Blake’s journey into construction and home restoration began after an accident that changed his life.

In his early days, Blake worked at the local coop. However, a tire blowout that broke his hand in 13 places was just the beginning of his challenges. After a second tire explosion, Blake made the bold decision to leave the job behind. He started mowing lawns and trimming trees, doing whatever he could to make ends meet. But it wasn’t long before he found a new calling.

Blake’s first flooring job came through local residents, Fed and Deb Derby, and it was from there that his interest in construction blossomed. “I fell in love with bringing to life a vision I could see in my head,” Blake shares. Over the years, his business has evolved, narrowing its focus to carpentry, particularly framing and finish work. “As I got busier, I realized I had to specialize,” he says.

Blake’s projects range from full home renovations to bathroom remodels, decks, and more. One of his most notable projects was the restoration of the Miller House in Eads. The home had suffered extensive damage from fire, water, and even bizarre damage caused by previous tenants. “There were holes in the wall and BBQ sauce on the ceilings,” Blake recalls with a laugh. Yet, he embraced the challenge. Through his dedication and craftsmanship, Blake transformed the house into a beautiful, livable space once again.

Blake’s approach to large projects is straightforward: just start. “I begin by tackling the things I know need to be done, and as I go, the ideas and plans come together,” he explains. For him, the work isn’t just about fixing structures; it’s about improving the lives of the people he serves. “Whether it’s repairing something crucial or adding something that makes daily life easier, I love helping people see their vision come to life,” Blake says.

What makes his work truly stand out is the attention to detail and the pride he takes in his craft. “I work solo 100 percent of the time. My standards are so high that it’s hard for me to trust anyone else with my projects,” he admits. For Blake, every project is personal—his “babies.” His dedication to perfection ensures that each job is done right, no matter the challenges.

Blake’s journey has also been about personal growth. Having lived in Lamar until he was 14, Blake made the decision to move to Eads and has never looked back. “I love the small, quiet community here and the support they’ve given me in my business,” he shares. It was this community and the abundance of older homes in need of repair that inspired Blake to build his business in the region. Now, his work extends beyond Eads, serving homeowners throughout southeastern Colorado.

Rural communities like Eads, with their rich history, often boast homes with deep ties to the past. However, many of these homes—some over a century old—are in desperate need of updates to meet the needs of modern living. In older homes, outdated plumbing, wiring, and insulation are common issues, and the aesthetic of some properties may not appeal to today’s buyers or renters. Without restoration and regular updates, these homes can fall into disrepair or remain underutilized.

Blake recognizes the challenge in preserving the charm and integrity of older homes while ensuring they are safe, energy-efficient, and comfortable. He is passionate about bringing these structures into the 21st century, all while maintaining the character and unique features that make them so special. “I see the beauty in these old homes and the potential they hold,” Blake explains. “But if they’re not updated, they’ll either fall apart or be passed over by buyers looking for something more modern.”

Many rural homeowners, particularly in areas like Eads, face financial constraints that make it difficult to afford expensive renovations or repairs. Blake’s service offers an affordable, high-quality alternative to large, expensive contractors. Whether it’s updating a bathroom, rebuilding a deck, or restoring a historic home, his work helps breathe new life into properties that might otherwise be overlooked. His goal is to make these homes not only livable but modern, ensuring they can serve future generations.

When asked about certifications, Blake humbly notes that while he doesn’t hold formal certifications, his work speaks for itself. “I work diligently and efficiently, and I take great pride in what I do,” he says. He finds his greatest satisfaction in bringing what once existed only in his imagination into reality. One of his proudest accomplishments was renovating his own home, which had been uninhabited for over 30 years. “It was a year of grueling work, but seeing it go from nothing to something real is just so cool to me,” he reflects.

Blake Robertson is more than a handyman—he’s a visionary who’s helping to restore the beauty and functionality of homes in Eads and the surrounding region, one project at a time. His passion, dedication, and attention to detail are not only transforming properties but enriching the community he loves. As more rural homes face the realities of aging and the need for updates, Blake’s work ensures that these homes can continue to tell their stories while providing safe, modern living spaces for today’s homeowners.
