Producers have been working long hours to finish the spring planting, the much needed moisture has delayed some planting.   Once that planting is completed, please visit the FSA office to complete your final acreage report for the crop year.  Also, during that visit the office will have you complete any eligibility paperwork and the 2017 ARCPLC enrollment contracts.

I attended the CSU Wheat Field Day on Thursday, June 8th at Scherler Farms along with Marvin Watson from NRCS.  There was some great information given by Scott Haley, Professor & Wheat Breeder and his staff from CSU.   I encourage producers to visit the CSU website at http://wheat.agsci.colostate.edu/ to learn more.

Low Interest Emergency Physical Loss Loans Available for
Two Colorado Counties with Assistance to Producers in Surrounding States
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Acting Administrator Chris Beyerhelm today announced that physical loss loans are available for two counties in Colorado. Farm operators who have suffered major physical losses caused by blizzard, excessive snow, freeze, excessive rain and high winds that occurred April 28 through May 1, 2017, may be eligible for emergency loans.

This Administrator’s Physical Loss Notification has been issued for Baca and Prowers counties as the primary damaged area. Additionally, three Colorado counties are contiguous to this designated disaster area, making these producers also potentially eligible for programs based on this designation. The contiguous counties are: Bent, Kiowa and Las Animas.

The following contiguous counties in surrounding states are also eligible for emergency loans:
Kansas:  Greeley, Hamilton, Morton and Stanton counties
New Mexico:  Union County
Oklahoma:  Cimarron County

FSA’s low interest emergency loans may be made available to any applicant with a qualifying loss in the counties named above. Approval is limited to applicants who suffered severe physical losses only.
Physical loss loans may be made to eligible farmers and ranchers to repair or replace damaged or destroyed physical property essential to the success of the agriculture operation, including livestock losses. Examples of property commonly affected include essential farm buildings, fixtures to real estate, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut bearing trees, and harvested or stored crops and hay.
Producers in eligible counties have eight months from the date of the declaration to apply for loans for physical losses.
Please contact FSA for more information on loan eligibility and the application process. FSA office information is available at http://offices.usda.gov. Additional FSA disaster assistance program information is available at http://disaster.fsa.usda.gov.

FSA began tracking the 2017 LDP rates, especially for wheat. The loan rate for wheat is $2.84 which is 19 cents lower than last year’s loan rate of $3.03.  The lower loan rate will definitely have an effect LDP rates for this year.  It’s important to protect yourself and be certain that the page 1 of CCC-633EZ is on file prior to selling any wheat for 2017, the form can be signed at any FSA office.  The form can also be emailed and/or faxed.
