Mile High Sports announced Friday that it has purchased Colorado Preps, LLC from Kevin and Lanette Shaffer in a deal that is effective immediately.
Included in the sale are ColoradoPreps.com and the radio and podcast network, each branch dedicated to sharing not only the scores and highlights but the stories behind the Centennial state’s student athletes, coaches and schools.
“I am proud of what we’ve accomplished through 19 years of the Colorado Preps Network and very excited about the future with Mile High Sports,” said Shaffer. “The MHS crew is poised to bring additional and expanded coverage to high school sports across the state and we’re honored to stay involved with the network and help its growth.”
Shaffer will remain on staff under the new ownership and continue hosting and producing the radio and podcast network along with additional projects currently in development.
“I couldn’t be more excited about the addition of Colorado Preps to the Mile High Sports family,” said Mile High Sports Editor-in-Chief Doug Ottewill. “My love of high school sports began as a very young kid through my father and it’s grown over the years because of the many great stories and relationships we’ve built through Mile High Sports.”
Mile High Sports has featured preps coverage for nearly two decades, but the addition of Colorado Preps will provide a new avenue for expansion of that coverage.
“With the elimination of the Rocky Mountain News, and shrinking budgets across most news outlets, local high school sports coverage has often and unfortunately become the casualty,” added Ottewill. “But there will always be kids playing sports and parents wanting to read about those kids playing sports. I think ColoradoPreps.com fills a need and a niche that will never go away, no matter what’s happening on the bigger sports landscape in Colorado.”
Mile High Sports Magazine made its debut in 2002. It remains Denver’s only all-sports magazine. Mile High Sports Radio followed in 2007, first on AM 1510 and now broadcasting on FM 98.1 | FM 107.5 HD-3 in Denver. MileHighSports.com is Denver’s topranked all-sports news website according to Alexa.com rankings.
