The McClave and Granada volleyball teams are off to 2-0 start in the early season.
The No. 2 state-ranked McClave Lady Cardinals defeated Lone Star, 3-1, to pick up their second win of the season on Saturday, Aug. 26.
McClave pounded out 43 kills in the match.
McKayla Kiniston, Abrielle Gomez, and Avery Hemphill all had 9 kills apiece.
Emily Melgoza added 8 kills and Ashlynn Steinbrunn had 6.
Kiniston and Emily Melgoza both had 3 blocks.
At the service line, Kiniston led the way with 5 ace serves. Steinbrunn and Makayla Phillips both had 3 aces apiece and Melgoza had 2 aces.
Hemphill, a freshman, led the defense with 20 digs. Gomez added 10 digs and Kiniston, Melgoza, and Steinbrunn all had 9 digs each.
McClave starts the month of September with matches at Simla on Saturday, Sept. 2 and at Cheyenne Wells on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Granada won by the scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-18.
TorLin Riddle sparked the hitting attack with 7 kills for the Lady Bobcats.
Emersen Hernandez followed with 5 kills, Dayzriana Quintana 4, and Kinsley Williams with 3.
Paula Aguirre set the ball for 12 assists and Williams had 7.
Jaleesa Rodriguez had 16 serve-receives and Valenzuela had 9.
Marissa Valenzuela had 5 ace serves, Riddle 4, Williams 3, and J. Rodriguez with 2.
On defense, Valenzuela had 17 digs and followed by Hernandez with 16, Rodriguez 10, Aguirre 7, Williams 6, Riddle 4, and Quintana with 4.
Granada played a road match at South Baca on Thursday, Aug. 31 and scheduled to play a match at Wiley on Thursday, Sept. 7.
The Wiley Lady Panthers volleyball team sits with a 3-3 record.
Wiley last three matches were on the road.
The Lady Panthers lost to Cheraw, 3-2 on Thursday, Aug. 24 but bounced back to post three-set wins against Sangre de Cristo on Friday, Aug. 25 and against Walsh on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Cheraw beat Wiley by the scores of 21-25, 14-25, 25-21, 25-18, and 15-9.
The Lady Panthers defeated Walsh 25-10, 29-27, and 25-15.
No individual statistics were reported for Wiley.
Looking ahead, the Lady Panthers host Eads on Tuesday, Sept. 5 and entertain Granada on Thursday, Sept. 7.
IN CLASS 2A, the Holly Lady Wildcats picked up their first win of the season against Las Animas in five sets after previous three-set losses to Granada and Swink.
Holly beat Las Animas by the scores of 16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, and 15-12 in a match played on Tuesday, Aug. 29 in Holly.
No individual statistics were available.
In Santa Fe League matches, Holly played Rocky Ford on Thursday, Aug. 31.
The Lady Wildcats start the month of September with a pair of home matches against Crowley County on Tuesday, Sept. 5 and Walsenburg on Thursday, Sept. 7.
