The Cheyenne Wells Tigers football team continues to improve each week and have proven they are a playoff quality team as they grabbed a major win over the Branson/Kim team who went undefeated in the 6-Man South League and was 7-1 coming into the game with the Tigers. When the scoreboard signaled the end of the game the Tigers had dominated the Bearcats, 58-14.

That win was obviously impressive enough to give the Tigers, just a 50% team at 5-5 on the season, a #6 seed in the first round of the Colorado 6-Man State Playoffs and a home game where Cheyenne Wells will host La Veta (#11, 6-4) on Friday, Nov. 4 at 1:00 pm.

In the game with Branson/Kim the Tigers jumped out to a 36-6 lead after the first period and a 58-6 lead by halftime. They used a balanced attack from the air and the ground to completely overcome the Bearcat defense.

Going into the second half the Tigers were able to play their bench liberally allowing the starters some rest and the youngsters some much-needed experience. The Bearcats did manage to score one touchdown late in the final quarter that included a successful PAT kick.

The final score was 58-14.

Cheyenne Wells doubled the all-purpose yardage compared to the Branson/Kim group. They passed for 188 yards compared to the Bearcats’ 72 yards passing. The Tigers also had 185 yards on the ground compared to 120 for the Bearcats. The rest of the yardage came off kick offs and punt returns.

Senior quarterback Perry Chadwick led the way for the Tigers at he completed 5 for 9 passes for 147 yards and 3 touchdown strikes.

Carson Noe was Chadwick’s favorite receiver as the senior end caught 5 passes for 133 yards and 2 touchdowns. Corey Hill caught one pass for 14 yards and a touchdown, and Jesse Harlow pulled in 2 passed for 32 yards.

As he has all season, sophomore running back Trey Scheler led the Tiger attack on the ground as he carried 6 times for 127 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Chadwick carried once for a 25-yard touchdown run, while junior Ethen Garay carried 6 times for 43 tough yards.

Scheler also led on the defensive side of the ball as the sophomore had 16 tackles in the game. Bryson Hyle added 7 tackles, while Chadwick, Harlow, and Kooper Brossman each had 3 tackles.

Chadwick also picked off one pass and recovered a Bearcat fumble.

Jesse Harlow, the talented Tiger kicker, was a perfect 5-for-5 scoring 10 points for Cheyenne Wells.
