Eads JH Baseball Moves to 7-2 with a Double Header Sweep over Las Animas

The Eads Junior High Baseball team traveled to Las Animas for a double header on Saturday, May 4 and came away with a double header sweep extending their season record to 7-2.

The JH group won the first game in a big score of 11-1 and a night cap score of 3-1.

Eads got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning when Gage Rittgers lined out but scored one run.

Las Animas came back and tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning, and then took the lead 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning.

But the Eads crew turned the game upside down in the top of the third and again in the top of the fourth inning when they manufactured 5 runs in each stanza.

In the top of the third Eads scored five runs on three hits to take a 6-1 lead. With one out Mason Sierra walked and then scored when Jaxon Bohlander reached base on an error at first base. Brantley Buller then pounded out a double to left field scoring Bohlander. Buller would then score on two passed balls from the catcher.

Rittgers singled on a ground ball to shortstop and then scored when Landyn Zimmerman arrived on an error at first base. With two outs Zimmerman scored on a single by Kai Brown on ground ball to shortstop.

In the top of the fourth inning the Eagles scored five more runs on two hits making the score 11-1. Tucker Fry grounded out, but brought in one run, an error scored one run, Rittgers tripled, scoring two runs, and another error scored another run.

Buller earned the win on the hill for Eads. The seventh grader allowed just two hits and one run over three innings of work, striking out eight batters and walking one. Rittgers came in for two innings of relief work giving up no runs, no hits, striking out five, and walking none.

Rittgers drove the middle of the lineup in the four-hole, leading Eads with three runs batted in. He was 2-for-3 in the game. Buller had a double and Rittgers pounded out a triple.

Bohlander, Sierra, Buller, Ethan Britten, Tyler Ward, and Rittgers each stole multiple bases with Eads grabbing 18 steals in all.

Pitching was the name of the game in the nightcap with Las Animas as Mason Sierra to the mound for Eads to start the game and recorded the first six outs.

Eads jumped out first on the scoreboard as after one run came in on a dropped third strike.

Eads made the score 3-1 in the top of the third inning after Tucker Fry singled, and Las Animas committed an error, each scoring one run.

Las Animas snuck in one run in the bottom of the third inning, but it was not enough and Eads got the win.

Sierra earned the win for Eads as they sixth grader allowed just one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out six batters and walking one. Bohlander appeared in relief for Eads for one inning and gave up no hits, one earned run, no walks, and struck out one batter.

Eads had only one hit in the contest, and it came from Tucker Fry’s single in the third inning that scored a run.

Eads will finish the junior high season with a double header in Wiley on Tuesday, May 7 and then host McClave for a double header on Friday, May 10th.
