The youngest softball players from Eads put it all together at the end of the season and won the Lamar Softball League tournament championship by defeating the Sandlot Sluggers, a team that had beaten them in a major score earlier in the season. This team just got better and better as in the tournament they first defeated NYL, 7-4, in the semifinals. They then advanced to the finals to take on the Sandlot Sluggers in the championship. Eads won the tournament defeating the Sluggers, 10-6 in an exciting finish.

The Eads team lost two games during the regular season including their first game of the season and then the one to the Sandlot Sluggers in early June. With 15 players on the team, the coaches, including Justin McLoud, Dustin Uhland, and Hayden Uhland, had a lot of work in order to move them into a team ready to place defense as well as hit the ball. Sometimes at this age—well actually most of the time to be truthful—the players don’t even have a grasp of the rules yet. It’s a daunting task, but these coaches turned chaos into a championship in a short amount of time.

Eads 8U softball won the semifinals of the tournament of NYL, 7-4, by using a big second inning where they scored 5 runs and took a 5-2 lead. The Eads group would add 2 more runs in the top of the third inning giving them a good enough cushion to finish with a successful win and a trip to the title game.

Brentley McLoud went 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBIs.

Jessalynn Johnson was 1-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Lexi McCracken was perfect, getting 3 hits in 3 at-bats and brought home one run.

Lilliana Barton was 2-for-3 in the semifinals.

Breckyn Meardon went 1-for-3.

Taylor Uhland was 1-for-2 with one run scored.

Taya Leonard was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.

Saylor Uhland was perfect with 1-for-1 and a run scored.

Teller Eder went 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Huntley Mendez went 1-for-1 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Monroe Frey and Caroline Buck were each 1-for-1 in the game.

Eads collected 18 hits while NYL pounded out 15 hits. Neither team committed an error.

In the championship game against the Sandlot Sluggers it would be Jessalynn Johnson with 4 hits to lead Eads to defeating the Sluggers, 10-6, in the finals. Jessalynn doubled in the third inning, singled in the first inning, singled in the fourth inning, and singled in the fourth inning on her second time around.

Eads scored one run in the top of the first inning when Brenley McLoud doubled on a hard ball to center field and was moved to third base by Johnson on a single to shortstop. Lexi McCracken singled on a ground ball to second base to bring Brenley home.

The Sluggers answered with 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning leaving the score with Eads behind, 3-1.

Eads didn’t score in the top of the second inning, but allowed the Sluggers to bring two more in. The young Eagles found themselves trailing 5-1 after two innings.

But the Eads group turned up the heat in the top of the third and fourth innings as they scored 4 runs and then 5 runs to take a commanding lead heading down the stretch.

In the fourth inning, Jessalynn Johnson started Eads out with a double to center field. Alayah Lane then singled to shortstop with one out moving Jessalynn to third base. Teller Eder then singled on a hard ground ball to shortstop scoring Jessalynn and leaving two aboard.

Taylor Uhland then singled on a hard ground ball to the pitcher moving Alayah to third base and Teller to second base. With bases loaded Huntley Mendez singled on a hard ground ball past third base. Alayah scored, Teller advanced to third base, and Taylor Uhland ended up on 2nd base.

Connie Gregory then kept the at-bat alive getting a fielder’s choice to the pitcher who was able to catch Teller at home plate. With bases still loaded Ramona Rouse slams out a single up the middle scoring Taylor Uhland.

Eads then put an exclamation point on the fifth inning scoring 5 runs. They then turned around and held the Sluggers scoreless in their last at-bat.

Those 5 runs came off of nine hits by Jessalynn Johnson, Lilliana Barton, Taylor Uhland, Teller Eder, Saylor Uhland, Breckyn Meardon, Monroe Frey, Taya Leonard, and Brenley McLoud.

Jessalynn Johnson led the way offensively for Eads with a perfect 4-for-4 performance and she scored two runs.

McLoud was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

Barton was 2-for-2 with 1 run scored.

Teller Eder went 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

Taylor Uhland was also perfect at 3-for-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Saylor Uhland, Breckyn Meardon, and Taya Leonard all went a perfect 20for-2 with one run scored.

Alayah Lane was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and one run scored.

Connie Greogry and Ramona Rouse were each 1-for-1 on the day.
