The area boys golf teams have been burning up the road and the links as the golf season quickly heats up. The Eads Eagles, led by senior Adyn Hough has enjoyed some good results overall as they prepare for what they hope will be a team state run as well as some hardware individually.

Hough had an impressive week of golf as he finished decent at Hollydot in 7th place with an 82, but then came back and won Burlington and was second at this year’s inaugural High Plains Shootout in Eads which featured teams from the High Plains League—which is growing every year.

The highlight of Hough’s week was at Burlington where he holed out on 16 from 128 yards out for a much-needed birdie.

The Eads golfers will continue to stay busy as the rest of September will see them at the Wray Invitational on September 14; 2026 Spartan Invite at Desert Hawk in Pueblo West on September 21; and the Eads Invitational at the Eads Golf Course on September 24th.

Hough Leads Eads Golfers at Rye Thunderbolt Invitational

The Eads Eagles boys’ golf team continued a busy stretch of early September competition on Thursday, Sept. 3, traveling to Hollydot Golf Course for the Rye Thunderbolt Invitational.

The Eagles finished 10th in the team standings with a three-player team score of 281, while senior Adyn Hough turned in another strong performance to place seventh overall with an 82.

Rye captured its home tournament with a team score of 235, edging Monte Vista, which finished three strokes back at 238. Pueblo Central was third with a 245, followed by Pueblo County at 254 and Alamosa at 260. Pueblo Centennial finished sixth at 272, Rocky Ford was seventh at 273, Pueblo East eighth at 276 and Swallows Charter Academy ninth at 280—just one stroke ahead of Eads.

Monte Vista senior Connor Mellott earned individual medalist honors with an impressive round of 70. Rye sophomore Ty Wood was second at 74, while Rye senior Kade Kenney placed third with a 78.

Hough was the top finisher for Eads, carding an 11-over-par 82 on the par-71 Hollydot layout. His round was a tale of two nines, as the Eagle senior made the turn with a 39 before coming home in 43.

Hough got off to a difficult start with a double bogey six on the par-4 first hole, but quickly answered with the highlight of his round. On the 385-yard, par-4 second, Hough recorded a birdie three.

He followed with a four on the par-3 third and then settled in nicely. Hough made four consecutive pars on holes six through nine to close his opening nine in 39.

On the back side, Hough continued to battle steadily. He bogeyed No. 10, then made par on the par-3 11th. After a bogey at No. 12 and par at No. 13, he closed the round with five consecutive bogeys. Despite the tougher closing stretch, the 82 was good enough to secure a seventh-place finish in the full field.

Sophomore Brantley Buller was Eads’ second finisher, shooting a 96 to place 45th. Junior Gaige Rittgers finished with 103, placing 60th, while senior Jayson Bletzacker shot a 106 to finish 63rd.

The Eagles’ team score was compiled from Hough’s 82, Buller’s 96 and Rittgers’ 103, totaling 281.

For Eads, Hough’s top-10 finish was the highlight of the day as the senior continued to establish himself among the stronger golfers in the region. His ability to recover from the opening-hole double bogey and play the remaining eight holes of the front nine just two over par—including the birdie on No. 2 and four straight closing pars—was particularly impressive against a competitive Rye Invitational field.

Hough Wins Burlington Invite as Eads Eagles Place Sixth

The Eads Eagles boys’ golf team turned in a strong performance at the Burlington Varsity Invite on Friday, Sept. 4, highlighted by senior Adyn Hough capturing the individual tournament championship with a 78.

The 18-hole tournament was played at Prairie Pines Golf Club in Burlington and brought together a large field of Class 2A golfers from across eastern Colorado.

Hough finished his round with a 78, tying Liberty Joes senior Ryan Richards for the lowest score of the tournament. Limon junior Easton Fulmer was just one stroke back with a 79, while Sedgwick County senior Cade Hoschouer finished fourth with an 80. Wray junior Hudson Rockwell and Fleming senior Madden Larsen followed at 82.

Hough’s performance was the centerpiece of a solid day for the Eagles, who finished sixth in the team standings with a score of 271.

Sedgwick County won the team championship with 257, edging host Burlington, which finished second at 260. Wray was third with a 261, Fleming fourth at 264 and Limon fifth at 266. Eads followed at 271, ahead of Stratton at 278, Flagler at 282 and Liberty Joes at 284.

The Eagles’ team score was compiled from their three lowest individual rounds. Behind Hough’s 78, sophomore Brantley Buller shot a 96, placing 28th overall, while junior Gaige Ritters finished with a 97, good for 31st place. Senior Jayson Bletzacker carded a 99 and finished 38th.

The 78 from Hough, 96 from Buller and 97 from Ritters combined for Eads’ 271 team total.

Hough’s championship round also put considerable distance between himself and the rest of the southeastern Colorado contingent. Cheyenne Wells junior Kase Shalberg was among the tournament’s top golfers, finishing tied for seventh with an 85.

Cheyenne Wells finished 11th in the team standings with a 294, while Lamar placed 14th with a 319. Holly did not have enough golfers entered to record a team score.

In addition to Shalberg’s 85, Cheyenne Wells got a 99 from junior Marcus Bogenhagen, who finished 38th, and a 110 from senior Porter Fulton, placing 55th.

Holly senior Coy King had a solid outing, shooting a 97 to finish 31st overall.

Lamar was led by freshman Isaac Ramos, who finished 35th with a 98. Sophomore Alex Vazquez placed 46th with a 104, freshman Zayden Walkinshaw was 50th with a 108, and freshman Thade Friederichs finished 60th after shooting a 113.

For Eads, however, the day belonged to Hough. The senior’s 78 gave the Eagles an individual tournament champion while helping propel Eads into sixth place in a deep 2A field, just 14 strokes behind team champion Sedgwick County.

Eads Dominates Home Course to Win High Plains Shootout

The Eads Eagles took full advantage of playing on their home course Saturday, Sept. 5, turning in a strong team performance to capture the championship at the High Plains Shootout at the Eads Golf Course.

Eads placed all three of its scoring golfers among the top five individually and finished with a team score of 234, a comfortable 17 strokes ahead of runner-up Swink at 251.

Senior Adyn Hough led the Eagles with an impressive round of 74, earning second place individually. Sophomore Brantley Buller was close behind, firing a 77 to finish third overall. Senior Jayson Bletzacker completed the Eagles’ championship team score with an 83, placing fifth in the individual standings.

The only golfer to finish ahead of the Eads duo of Hough and Buller was Limon junior Easton Fulmer, who claimed medalist honors with a round of 69.

Eads’ 234 easily secured the team championship over Swink, which finished second with a 251. Swink’s second squad took third at 283, while High Plains League rival Cheyenne Wells placed fourth with a 286. The Eads second team was fifth with a 297, followed by Springfield in sixth at 321. Holly also competed in the tournament but did not have enough golfers to post a team score.

The tournament demonstrated the depth of the Eads program, as the Eagles were able to field two teams and place both among the top five. Their varsity trio was particularly impressive, with only nine strokes separating Hough’s 74 and Bletzacker’s 83.

Cheyenne Wells was led by junior Kase Shalberg, who continued his strong season by shooting an 86 to finish ninth. Junior Marcus Bogenhagen was next for the Tigers, placing 13th with a 92.

Sophomore Rowdy Ryser finished 18th after carding a 108, while freshman Kolbren Pelton placed 24th with a 132.

For Eads, the home tournament championship was built on consistency at the top of the lineup. Hough and Buller gave the Eagles two of the three best rounds in the entire field, while Bletzacker’s 83 provided another top-five finish. Their combined 234 proved more than enough to keep the championship trophy at home.

TEAM RESULTS: Eads 234; Swink 251; Swink 2 283; Cheyenne Wells 286; Eads 2 297; Springfield 321.

TOP EADS INDIVIDUALS: Adyn Hough (sr.), 2nd, 74; Brantley Buller (so.), 3rd, 77; Jayson Bletzacker (sr.), 5th, 83.
