Southern Plains 10U Baseball goes 1-2 at State Tournament

It was HOT and it was HUMID in Council Grove, Kansas as the 12U All-Stars from Southern Plains battled through tough conditions and five games in their bid to advance to the 12U World Series in Florida in a week’s time. Despite battling admirably through pool play and making it into the bracket tournament out of 10 teams competing in the regionals, they would be eliminated by the regional runner-up, Cottonwood Valley, KS, in a heartbreaking 3-0 defeat. Mineral Springs, Missouri would be the eventual Midwest Regional Champions and will travel to Florida as our representatives in the 12U division.
It was another tough game for the struggling Eads boys’ basketball team as they continue to slide in the regular season schedule. They would lose a slow game, 72-31, to the #3 ranked Wiley Panthers in Wiley on Thursday night. With the loss, first year Coach Russell Parker will need to try to regroup the team as they quickly head toward post-season play. This week doesn’t get any easier for the Eagles who have been playing without two starters, including the Eagles’ leading scorer in Caden Parker, as they travel to Kit Carson on Friday night to take on their rivals up the road, the #5 (11-3) Wildcats. And the hits just keep coming as Saturday night they will walk into the Plainview High School gym to face off with the defending state champions the #2 Holly Wildcats (12-3). Eads is now 6-7 overall.
It was a slow, very slow start for the Eads Lady Eagles Thursday night in Wiley as the Panthers came out firing on all cylinders and focused on both sides of the ball. Despite being tied at halftime, 28-28, Eads managed to out-distance the Lady Pan-thers, 60-40, to extend their overall season record to 10-3. Eads now prepares for a big conference game at Kit Carson on Friday night with the undefeated Wildcats who are ranked #2 in the coloradopreps.com state poll and sporting a 12-0 record.
