Uncle Jess Dohrman picked them up and took them to his house west of Hawk Cemetery, Haddam, Kansas, where they waited for her dad and brother to arrive. She moved to Cheyenne Wells after marriage in 1943, where she was a life-long member of the community, apart from a short time when she lived in Haddam, Kansas before relocating back to Cheyenne Wells. She helped her husband for many years in their Conoco station. Her hobbies included gardening, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, and camping.
